Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is a psychological approach with a growing evidence base. It encourages us to understand how it is often the struggles we get into trying to avoid or get rid of difficult feelings which magnify our difficulties. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or emotions, ACT encourages individuals to accept them as part of the human experience while committing to actions aligned with their core values. This fosters what we call 'psychological flexibility'—the ability to adapt to challenges without becoming overwhelmed by stress or negative thinking.

In a workplace context, ACT can help people manage stress, prevent burnout, and maintain resilience. By focusing on values-driven actions and mindful acceptance, one can reduce the impact of anxiety or pressure, improve emotional regulation, and enhance overall job satisfaction. ACT-based practices—such as mindfulness exercises and clarifying personal values—support a healthier, more balanced approach to work and life.
