Systemic Therapy

Systemic (Family) Therapy is a type of therapy which aims to work with problems faced by individuals, families and the wider community through improving relationships, communication skills and qualities of connection. It has its roots in systems theory and takes a broad view of difficulties, always holding in mind the importance of the wider context. It is also a strengths based approach, with an emphasis on helping people to discover their own skills and abilities.

Systemic approaches hold great relevance for the challenges faced by those working in a wide range of teams. The team is seen as more than a collection of individuals, it is an interconnected system. Understanding the value of each member of the system as well as the connections between members is a valuable approach in improving team functioning.
